Evolution of Genetic Dviersity
Discovering the determinants of genetic diversity is crucial for both understanding macroevolutionary patterns of diversification and recognizing cryptic biodiversity. In turn, this information can be used to study the evolution of functional traits, and to determine how genetic diversity can facilitate or constrain evolution. We study 1) how geography shapes genetic and biological diversity within and among species (Cox, Streicher, Sheehy et al., 2012, Streicher, Cox, Campbell et al., 2012, Brodie Jr., Campbell, Streicher et al., 2014, Miller, Makowsky, Formanowicz et al., 2014, Streicher, Reyes-Velasco, Cox et al., 2014, Moseley, Cox, Streicher et al., 2015) and 2) practical aspects of reconstructing phylogenies using sequence data (Makowsky, Cox, Roelke et al., 2010, Makowsky, Cox, Roelke et al., 2013).
